Earlier this year, Gang Alternative, Inc.’s (GA) President/CEO, Michael J. Nozile, Sr. was appointed to the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) Coalition Advisory Committee. This Committee is comprised of 14 coalition leaders from across the country and is responsible for ensuring that CADCA’s programs accurately and effectively represent the challenges and concerns of community anti-drug coalitions.
Nozile’s appointment to this Committee is testament to the work that GA has been doing in organizing, mobilizing and strengthening drug-free coalitions in South Florida. This includes leading the first drug-free coalition in Liberty City and Little Haiti since 2009. This coalition, the Urban Partnership Drug Free Community Coalition, is a collaborative of 63 stakeholder organizations focused on addressing South Florida’s youth substance abuse issues. GA’s reputation in successful coalition-building led to the organization being awarded funding from SAMHA in 2015 and 2017 to mentor other coalitions, namely Hogar Crea in Puerto Rico, and Coalicion Esperenza in West Little Havana.
As a member of CADCA’s Advisory Committee, Nozile participated in CADCA’s 20th Annual Drug-Free Kids Campaign Awards on October 18, 2018 in National Harbor, Maryland. This campaign is aimed to mobilizing funds for, “combating drug use and misuse through a comprehensive multi-sector approach” (www.CADCA.org.) He joined other CADCA Advisory Committee members, Board of Directors and staff in hosting this event that brought together over 400 supporters and partners from across the country. This event was preceded by the quarterly meeting of the Advisory Committee which included discussions on emerging trends, prevention in the 21st century, and innovations from the field.
Gang Alternative, Inc. provides children and families with community-based programming as positive alternatives to crime, violence, dependency, and delinquency. This is directly aligned with CADCA’s mission of strengthening the capacity of community coalitions to create and maintain safe, healthy and drug-free communities globally.
