    Reports to: Program Manager, Project CAREERRS
    Employment Type: Full-time
    Work Location: Miami-Dade County
    Salary Range: $40,000-$43,000 (non-negotiable)

    Position Summary

    Gang Alternative, Inc.’s (GA) Correctional Adult Reentry Education Employment and Recidivism Reduction Strategies (CAREERRS) is a Second Chance Act program designed to help communities establish education, vocation, and job training programs in their correctional systems that address employment challenges facing incarcerated youth and adults re-entering those communities and the workforce. GA’s CAREERRS Case Manager will maintain responsibility for navigational case for all participants while they are incarcerated and post-release. The expected outcomes are consistent with increasing employability skills and employment placement via improved workplace preparedness.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Conduct outreach and execute recruitment processes in Miami-Dade County Correctional Institutions consistent with the program goals and objectives.
    • Conduct participant intakes, eligibility verification and documentation.
    • Administer and analyze evidence-based assessments.
    • Utilize assessment results to inform the development of the participants’ Individual Development Plan/Case Plan which is the overall case plan that includes the agreed upon academic goals, career plan, employability skills, interest, and cultural background of each participant.
    • Provide guidance and monitor individual participant activities as outlined in the case plan in order to track progress of individual participants toward attainment of identified educational, training, and employment goals.
    • Carry a coaching case load of participants continuing for a minimum of one year, including academic/career planning, goal setting, crisis management, and advocacy during their pre-release from incarceration phase and post-release period.
    • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to participants as needed.
    • Accurately track, input data, and maintain comprehensive case files (physical and electronic) for participants.
    • Facilitate group mentoring session.
    • Conduct frequent one-on-one participant sessions.
    • Coordinate links to appropriate support services and provide appropriate referrals such as transportation assistance, basic needs and emergency assistance, behavioral health support, medical health support and access to other support services during post-release phase.
    • Prepare reports, as required, for submission to funder and other partners via Program Manager.
    • Build and maintain healthy relationships with participants.
    • Serve as an Ambassador of Gang Alternative, Inc.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Competencies

    • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related degree.
    • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in case management, counseling and/or providing training, mentoring, support to disadvantaged populations, in particular, justice-involved individuals.
    • Demonstrated experience developing relationships with service providers.
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism and maturity in handling sensitive information, participant interaction and community relations.
    • Ability to acquire clearance to enter Federal and State correctional institutions.
    • Prior experience working in correctional institutions would be an asset.
    • Knowledge of methods for job development, local labor market trends and employment opportunities.
    • Demonstrated experience working with returning citizens providing counseling and administering assessments would be an asset.
    • Thorough knowledge of criminal justice field.
    • Knowledge of case management principles, objectives, standards, and methods, including motivational interviewing.
    • Knowledge of Miami-Dade County community and government services delivery.
    • Strong leadership, organizational and analytical skills.
    • Ability to organize, plan, and manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to work with and engage individuals of diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to work in a team environment, while also working independently.
    • Demonstrated capacity to handle multiple tasks, projects and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to take a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
    • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Note:

    • This position may require independent travel between workstation and other sites. Consequently, the incumbent must always maintain valid Driver’s License and insurance coverage on personal vehicle during employment.
    • Performing the duties of this position requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, reach, talk, hear and lift presentation materials, including equipment.
