    Part-time Certified Teacher (Afterschool Program)

    Title: Part-time Certified Teacher (Afterschool Program)
    Reports to: Site Coordinator and/or Program Director GPS
    Employment Type: Part-time
    Work Location: Miami-Dade County

    Position Summary

    This position is responsible for evaluating the reading levels of all the out-of-school program participants to further the work of the GPS program. This individual also assists with data collection and other program reports as identified by the Site Coordinator or Program Manager.

    Essential duties and responsibilities

    • Responsible for evaluating reading levels of all participants in order to place and further their reading/literacy level
    • Conduct pre, mid and post-tests on reading/literacy
    • Responsible for carrying out the Oral Reading Fluency Improvement Outcomes Strategies
    • Responsible for assisting instructors with planning reading and creative writing activities
    • Works with instructors to determine specific needs of students with below-level reading skills
    • Provide required daily activity reports to tutor/instructors
    • Assists with maintaining a calendar of activities for the assigned group
    • Assures the safety and security of children at all times
    • Assures with compliance of confidentiality at all times
    • Assures that children are supervised at all times.
    • Reports all unusual incidents in writing as required by DCF
    • Establishes positive rapport with parents
    • Complies with timely completion of required reports and projects.
    • Communicates needs of children and parents to the Site Coordinator and Program Manager.

    Qualifications and competencies

    • Minimum of a BA Degree in Education
    • Experience working with children preferred
    • Proficiency in English/Creole/Spanish
    • Experience servicing a diverse or multicultural community preferred
    • Computer literacy required.
    • 85% of students will maintain or improve reading levels
    • Assures 85% satisfaction from participants and parents
    • Reporting of program activity is 95% accurate
