    Reports to: Program Manager, VIP
    Employment Type: Full-time, 9.30 am to 6.30pm
    Work Location: Broward County
    Salary Range: $34,000-$36,000

    Gang Alternative, Inc.’s Violence Intervention Program, is a gang suppression program with the primary goal of reducing youth gang activity through the employment of prevention and intervention strategies. The program services high-risk youth in Fort Lauderdale and surrounding areas. The Youth Prevention Specialist (YPS) is responsible for the intake, assessment of client needs, and preparation of intervention plans as well as the facilitation of evidence-based programming and community-based initiatives. The YPS will support the planning, organization, and execution of the program goals designed to address the full range of personal, family, and community factors that contribute to high levels of juvenile delinquency and gang activity.

    Essential duties and responsibilities

    • Facilitate the afterschool program utilizing the identified evidence-based programs: Aggression Replacement Training (ART) and Botvin Life Skills Curriculum.
    • Conduct intake and needs assessments and develop individualized service plans.
    • Provide guidance and monitor individual client activities as outlined in development plans to track client progress toward attainment of identified goals.
    • Provide educational and remedial services for participants.
    • Coordinate mentorship program and community service project components.
    • Provide case management and facilitate wraparound services to youth and families.
    • Participate in implementation team meetings.
    • Administer the evaluation instruments and collect data.
    • Maintain systems, procedures, and methods for programmatic record keeping while ensuring accuracy.
    • Serve as liaison to program partners and community members.
    • Recruit and schedule program volunteers (or community service hour volunteers).
    • Attend funder trainings, staff trainings, and meetings during and outside of program hours to improve professional skills and enhance the program activities.
    • Organize family involvement activities.
    • Serve as an ambassador of GA.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and competencies

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field.
    • Two years of experience serving youth and families preferably in Outreach & Case Management.
    • Experience working in the field of gang violence prevention or reduction.
    • Demonstrated experience in working with evidence-based violence intervention and prevention models and culturally relevant adaptations for the target community.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and ability to work effectively with youth and adult volunteers in a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism and maturity in handling sensitive information, participant interaction, and community relations.
    • Ability to organize, plan, and manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
    • Knowledge of Broward County community and youth preferred.
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole strongly preferred.


    • This position may require independent travel between workstation and other sites. Consequently, the incumbent must always maintain valid Driver’s License and insurance coverage on personal vehicle during employment.
    • Performing the duties of this position requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, reach, talk, hear and lift presentation materials, including equipment.
