    Youth Prevention Specialist (Violence Prevention Program)

    Title: Youth Prevention Specialist (Violence Prevention Program)
    Reports to: Program Manager, Project NIOS
    Employment Type: Full-time
    Work Location: Miami-Dade County
    Salary Range: $34,000-$36,000

    Project Not-In-Our-School (NIOS) is an in-school violence prevention program aimed at improving school security by providing middle students and teachers with the tools they need to recognize, respond quickly to, and help prevent acts of violence. The Youth Prevention Specialist is primarily responsible for delivery of the identified evidence-based curricula, with fidelity, to middle school children in a classroom setting during normal school hours.

    Essential duties and responsibilities

    • Conduct outreach and recruitment of program participants for Project NIOS.
    • Facilitate sessions using prescribed curricula and evidence-based practices.
    • Conduct intakes and administer assessments.
    • Coordinate links to appropriate support services and provide appropriate referrals.
    • Build and maintain professional working relationships with other team members, school personnel, and community service providers.
    • Attend staff trainings and meetings to improve professional skills and enhance the program activities.
    • Collect and enter program participant data.
    • Prepare reports, as required, for submission to funder and other partners via Program Manager.
    • Submit activity logs and all required project management documents in a timely manner.
    • Keep supervisor informed of day-to-day activities, significant events or conditions impacting on participant and/or staff well-being, team safety, and office operations.
    • Promote an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment where all program participants will be assured that they can and will be heard.
    • Attend scheduled meetings and participate in scheduled activities deemed necessary by the Program Manager to include community meetings and community information fairs.
    • Serves as an Ambassador of Gang Alternative, Inc.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications and competencies

    • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field
    • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
    • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in youth education/ prevention programming.
    • Experience in facilitating evidence-based programming a curriculum in a school setting would be an asset.
    • Previous experience facilitating Botvins Life Skills and Positive Action EBPs would be an asset.
    • Must be able to pass a level one FDLE background clearance
    • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
    • Effective group/classroom management skills.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing relationships with youth participants and parents.
    • Ability to work with and engage individuals of diverse backgrounds.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism and maturity in handling sensitive information, participant interaction, and community relations.
    • Ability to organize, plan, and manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to take a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
    • Strong technology skills including proficiency in use of managing virtual platforms and proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Note:

    • This position may require independent travel between workstation and other sites. Consequently, the incumbent must always maintain valid Driver’s License and insurance coverage on personal vehicle during employment.
    • Performing the duties of this position requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, reach, talk, hear and lift presentation materials, including equipment.
