Expanding access to high-quality STEAM enrichment while building social-emotional skills and career readiness
Broward AHEAD is Gang Alternative’s structured after-school STEAM enrichment and career exploration program for underserved youth. Over 16–18 weeks, students participate in a supportive cohort that helps them discover who they are, what careers fit their strengths, and how to take concrete steps toward a stable, meaningful future.
The program begins with career identity and social-emotional foundations, where youth explore their interests, set personal and academic goals, and build confidence, resilience, and a future-focused mindset.
Next, in STEAM workforce immersion, students use the Transfr virtual reality platform to experience hands-on simulations in high-demand fields such as healthcare, information technology, engineering, logistics, construction, advanced manufacturing, and skilled trades, reinforced by guest speakers from local industries.
Finally, in pathway planning, each student creates a personalized Life After High School Plan that links career interests to education or credential pathways, immediate next steps, and a financial literacy module grounded in ALICE survival budget realities.
