Qualifications and Competencies
- Bilingual (Creole or Spanish)
- Preferred A.A. or Degree in Education or High school student graduate
- Available to work the required program hours
- Reliable personal transportation and personal cellular phone
- Demonstrated experience working with children in K-8th
- Positive response to criminal background check (fingerprint)
- Basic Computer skills
- Must obtain a Florida Child Care Professional Certificate
- Must have access to a licensed, insured personal vehicle at all times during work hours for reliable transportation. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for the use of personal vehicles as part of work-related travel.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing program support to the Site Coordinator in ensuring that the work of the GPS program including logistical and communication support to coordinate program business, administrative matters and to provide direct instruction, supervision, care and support of children served in program. GPS Instructor services include: facilitating session outreach and resource development including linking clients to appropriate support services as directed by the Site Coordinator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct instruction of children/youth, with each site location needing one of the following specialty areas: reading, social skills, physical education, arts
- Assessment testing of students within assigned specialty area (pre-, mid-, post)
- Create a positive, enriching academic environment for the children
- Assist and engage children with completion of the daily school homework and attendance
- Creative and works independently with the children
- Make sure the children’s nutritional needs are met through the daily snack (or lunch/snack during longer program day.)
- Follow the daily activity schedule set by the Site Supervisor
- Model and reinforce the washing of hands and cleanliness, especially before meals/snacks and after using the bathroom
- Demonstrate respect for parents at all times and invite them to join in regular program activities and special parent events
- Maintain a clean suitable/safe area for the children
- Attend staff trainings outside of program hours to improve professional skills and enhance the program activities
- Assist children in the use of educational computer lab
- Participate in agency meetings, in-service trainings and workshops as deemed appropriate.
- Abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations. Maintain strict confidentiality when handling client information.
- Perform other Duties as necessary
