Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years in a communications or marketing role, preferably within a nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrated experience in content management, media outreach, and brand coordination.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling and impactful messaging.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project coordination skills.
- Proficiency in communications technology, including social media management and website maintenance.
- Collaborative mindset with experience working across departments and engaging various stakeholders.
Position Summary
The Communications Manager is responsible for coordinating and executing Gang Alternative, Inc.’s (GA) communications strategy to enhance visibility, engagement, and brand integrity across all platforms. Working under the guidance of the Chief of Staff, this role supports GA’s mission by delivering cohesive, consistent messaging to key audiences, including funders, media, and community stakeholders. The Communications Manager will ensure that all communications efforts reflect GA’s values, drive community engagement, and accurately represent the organization’s impact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute and manage GA’s communications plan, reinforcing brand identity and mission through consistent messaging and proactive engagement.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Staff to align communications efforts with organizational goals and support specific initiatives.
- Manage and produce content for GA’s website, social media channels, and other digital platforms, ensuring it is dynamic, up-to-date, and engaging.
- Oversee the production and distribution of digital and print communications, including newsletters, email campaigns, press releases, and other promotional materials.
- Coordinate media outreach activities and serve as the main point of contact for media inquiries, aligning all interactions with GA’s mission and messaging.
- Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, community partners, and stakeholders to promote GA’s programs and impact.
- Organize and support outreach events, information sessions, and community presentations to boost engagement and foster positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Ensure all communication materials align with GA’s brand standards, delivering a unified and professional public presence.
- Review content and promotional materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality across all communications.
- Track engagement metrics and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts, providing insights and recommendations to the Chief of Staff.
- Support internal communications by providing clear, cohesive messaging that keeps staff, volunteers, and stakeholders informed and engaged.
- Coordinate closely with other departments to ensure that communications are aligned with GA’s broader mission and operational goals.
